Jim Treece, 47,  has lived in Frederick, Maryland for over 25 years and even though he commutes to a full-time job in Rockville, MD, he still finds the time to train as an ultra runner. He started his running career in 1995 doing several 5k road races and quickly moving up to the marathon distance. Bored with just doing road workouts, he started to run the trails around Western Maryland and surrounding states.  In 2000, he took the plunge and began running trail ultras and hasn’t looked back.  To date he has run over 50 ultras with 16 of these being 100 mile races in 8 different states. Jim is always encouraging runners to reach beyond their perceived limits and maybe even attempt running an ultra. The mental stamina he has built up from running not only helps him on the trails, but prepares him to face any obstacle he encounters in life.
