Ellen Sheehan, 24, is a runner, hiker, occasional biker and lover of the great outdoors. Originally from Howard County, Maryland, Ellen moved to Carroll County, Maryland with her family during her teenage years. She attended high school at Mount de Sales Academy where she ran cross country and track. Ellen first started on the track and field team at Mount de Sales as a thrower for shot put and discus. However, during practices Ellen used to run extra warm-up laps around the track. Her coaches noticed her stamina and passion for running distance and decided to have her start practicing and competing with the cross country team in lieu of throwing.

After high school, Ellen attended the University of Maryland where she double majored in biology and psychology. Although she did not compete on UMD’s cross country team in college, she used running as a means of therapy and release. Long distance running helped her clear her mind before exam and was a means of release after an exam was over.

What started as her high school sport has transformed into her sanctuary, mental escape and avenue of exploration. After graduating from UMD in 2013, Ellen moved to California where she took to running to learn her surroundings and accustom herself with the area. This past year Ellen moved back east to Frederick, Maryland where she has also used running as a method to familiarize herself with a new town.  She enjoys getting lost and discovering all of the parks and hidden gems in and around the Frederick area.  Ellen is currently applying to medical school and works at If The Shoe Fits. With the warm weather approaching, Ellen is excited to start running, hiking and biking in the Frederick Watershed and exploring some of the other trails and parks in neighboring towns.
